Following discussions at the Belagavi Assembly session, the government has directed the SEC to finalize preparations for the following elections, most of which are expected to conclude before the peak of summer 2026.

Ending the Five-Year Delay
The District and Taluk Panchayat elections were last held in April 2016. While the terms expired in 2021, the polls were repeatedly pushed back due to legal hurdles regarding delimitation (redrawing of boundaries) and reservation quotas. Similarly, Gram Panchayat terms, last decided in December 2020, are now up for renewal. The state government has emphasized that it is high time to "break the cycle of officer-led administration" and return power to elected local leaders.
