GBA Polls: BJP Appoints Ram Madhav as In-Charge; NDA to Contest in Alliance, Confirms HDK!?

In a major strategic move, the party has appointed veteran leader and former National General Secretary Ram Madhav as the Election In-Charge for the high-stakes Bengaluru polls.

Following the Supreme Court’s directive to conduct the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections by June 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially sounded the battle bugle. In a major strategic move, the party has appointed veteran leader and former National General Secretary Ram Madhav as the Election In-Charge for the high-stakes Bengaluru polls.

This announcement comes less than 24 hours after Nitin Nabin took charge as the youngest BJP National President, signaling that the party’s new central leadership is prioritizing a return to power in India’s Silicon Valley.

Strategic Appointments for Bengaluru

The order, issued by National General Secretary Arun Singh, outlines a robust team to reclaim the city’s civic body. Joining Ram Madhav are two seasoned strategists:

Satish Poonia: Former Rajasthan BJP President, appointed as Co-In-Charge.

Sanjay Upadhyay: Senior leader from Maharashtra, appointed as Co-In-Charge.

Political analysts view the appointment of Ram Madhav a master strategist known for his roles in the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir as a sign that the BJP is treating the GBA elections with the intensity of a state assembly campaign.

Ending the Alliance Confusion

The announcement also puts to rest weeks of speculation regarding the rift between the BJP and its regional ally, the JD(S). Rumors of a solo contest had been circulating following cryptic statements from certain JD(S) leaders.

However, Union Minister and JD(S) stalwart H.D. Kumaraswamy clarified the situation on Tuesday. "There is no confusion. The BJP and JD(S) will face the GBA elections as a united front under the NDA banner. Our goal is to provide a stable, development-oriented administration for Bengaluru," Kumaraswamy stated. The Maharashtra Ripple Effect

The BJP’s aggressive posturing in Karnataka is fueled by the recent success of the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra. Encouraged by that victory, the party is now focusing on consolidating the urban vote in Bengaluru, which is home to over 8.8 million electors.

Road to June 30

The Supreme Court has mandated that the election process be completed before the monsoon deadline of June 30. With the draft voter rolls already released and the Election In-Charges now on the ground, the "Battle for Bengaluru" is set to become a three-way contest between the ruling Congress, the BJP-JD(S) alliance, and the AAP.
