In the Karnataka Budget 2026, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the historic Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru will be renamed “Shantaveri Gopalagowda Hospital.” The government also revealed plans to establish super speciality hospitals in Karwar and Yadgir, along with a new cancer hospital near Hosadurga.

Bengaluru, March 06: During the Karnataka Budget 2026 presentation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made several important announcements related to the healthcare sector. Located in the heart of Bengaluru, Victoria Hospital is one of the major government hospitals in South India. With a history of about 125 years, the hospital has provided healthcare services to thousands of people. The construction of the hospital began in 1897 in memory of Queen Victoria, and it officially started operations in 1900. Initially started with a limited number of beds, the hospital has now grown into a large medical center with more than 1,000 beds.

Victoria Hospital has played a crucial role during accidents, infectious disease outbreaks, and emergency situations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of patients received treatment at the hospital.

Along with this, the government has also announced new projects to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure. Two super speciality hospitals will be constructed in Karwar and Yadgir, each with an investment of ₹100 crore. In addition, a cancer hospital will be established near T.B.
