Will Afghan-Pak ever have a solution for Durand line?

Durand line was drawn by Sir Mortimer Durand and Abdur Rahman Khan of Afghanistan in November 12, 1893 and signed by both. The line was drawn to primarily uphold the strategic interests of then British Empire. The Durand line runs for 2640 Kms, covering the terrain that runs through vivid landscapes of snow-capped Karakoram Range on the Northeast to the desert in Southwest.

The two local ethnic groups who are living here are Pashtuns and Balooch who have never recognized this border line as they are spread on both the sides. India too has a stake of 105 kms which lies in POK.

Few imperative reasons why the Durand line was drawn

The British wanted to secure the border from Russian invasion, the line secures control over Khyber and other frontier regions, it formalized the influence between the British Empire the Afghan Kingdom and it was intended to separate the Pashtun tribal areas to stabilize their Northwest frontier.

What changed now?

Now the scenario has drastically changed. With the terror history of Pak, Afghans have always been the supporters of Pak outfits. Post-Taliban regime changed everything between the two countries. The Pak authorities was supporting Afghans and they had a plan of using Afghans as proxy against India, but after Taliban took power, Pak’s calculation went thoroughly wrong.

Afghans realized the fact Pak had never helped Afghan in two decades of their war with US. Pak always claimed they protected Afghans by sheltering them and helping them with basic needs. The reality was Pak had taken Dollars from US and had actually helped US to massacre Afghans. The realization came to Afghans in post –Taliban regime and they became pro-India.

Now Pak claims TTP is the terror outfit attacking the Pak nationals from Afghan soil. Afghan says they are not from Afghan and they are the locals of Pak. In short now Durand line has become a major issue between the two countries, resulting in killing each other every day.

None are seeing any ray of hope or solution in the near future, adding to agony, even Balooch have started the movement against Pak Punjabi authorities. Pak is engulfed from all the sides and the future of Pak is not very promising. The latest being their bail-out of 7 billion $ from IMF, which is been rejected by IMF.

India is watching their next move, which obviously either going to US or Saudi for the help.
