Vaccines are among the most effective tools in modern medicine they boost the body's immune response and prevent serious, often life-threatening infectious diseases.

The date marks the launch of India's Pulse Polio Immunization Programme on March 16, 1995, when oral polio vaccine drops were administered nationwide for the first time.

This massive campaign contributed to India being declared polio-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014, with the last reported case on January 13, 2011. According to the WHO, vaccines save 2–3 million lives annually worldwide. They have eradicated smallpox globally, dramatically reduced measles and tetanus, and played a pivotal role in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic—preventing millions of deaths that would have occurred without them.

Key Objectives of National Vaccination Day:

Educate parents on the importance of timely vaccination for children and pregnant women.

Identify and protect children who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Address vaccine hesitancy by building trust through accurate information.

Strengthen community immunity (herd immunity) to protect vulnerable populations.
