In a development creating intense curiosity in Karnataka politics, today (March 18, 2026) has emerged as a highly decisive day for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) scam case.

The Karnataka High Court is set to take up the hearing on appeals challenging the sanction granted by the Governor for investigation against him.

Background of the Case:

Social activist Snehamayi Krishna had lodged a complaint with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot alleging irregularities in the allotment of 14 high-value alternative sites (worth crores) to CM Siddaramaiah's wife, B.M. Parvathi, by MUDA. After review, the Governor granted sanction under the Prevention of Corruption Act to probe Siddaramaiah. CM Approaches High Court:

Questioning the Governor's decision as politically motivated and unlawful, Siddaramaiah filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court.

However, a single-judge bench (earlier hearings) had upheld the Governor's sanction, finding no illegality in granting permission for investigation. also read :The president of Iran, Pezeshkain confirms the fatal end of Ali Larijani in Israel’s air strike

Significance of Today's Hearing:

A division bench of the High Court will now hear arguments on whether to stay or quash the investigation by Lokayukta or other agencies.

Top lawyers are likely to represent Siddaramaiah, with extensive debate expected on the Governor's powers, grounds for sanction, and procedural aspects. also read :Election Commission removes all the top bureaucrats of TMC for fair and just election

Key question: Will the court grant an interim stay on the probe, providing relief to the CM?

Potential Impact:

If the High Court allows the investigation to proceed, opposition parties like BJP and JD(S) are poised to intensify demands for Siddaramaiah's resignation on moral grounds.also read :‘BJP is like Amoeba, it grows however and whenever it wants’, says Uddhav Thackeray

Conversely, a favorable order could ease pressure amid the politically charged atmosphere. The eyes of the entire state are on the Karnataka High Court today, awaiting any interim order or direction that could significantly influence the CM's political future and the trajectory of this high-profile case.
