Koppal: A major breach occurred in the Tungabhadra Left Bank Main Canal near Basapur village in Koppal taluk, causing large volumes of water to surge into farmers' fields, resulting in widespread crop destruction.
Following the incident, Water Resources Minister Shivraj Tangadagi and local MLA Raghavendra Hitnal visited the site to assess the situation.The breach has turned nearby agricultural lands into virtual lakes. Approximately 92 acres of farmland have been completely inundated and submerged.
Around 74 farmers have suffered severe crop losses, leaving them in deep distress and financial hardship as their standing crops primarily paddy have been washed away.
During the visit, Minister Tangadagi held discussions with officials and issued strict directives:

Damage Assessment: Revenue Department officials were instructed to conduct an immediate survey of the flooded lands and submit a detailed damage report.

The breach not only threatens agriculture but also raises serious concerns over drinking water supply to villages in the region, as the canal is a vital source for filling tanks in Koppal and Raichur districts.

Local farmers have expressed anger over alleged negligence, with some reports indicating prior warnings about seepage were ignored.
