The Arrest of Matthew VanDyke and the impact on US-India relation

India has always been maintaining the neutral position at the Global geo-political stage. India enjoys a very close business and trade partnerships with couple of countries, the main being Russia, China, Israel and Europe. India’s relation with US was never very healthy. India being a serious critic of US’s double standards, could never offer a friendly gesture, instead both India and US mutually don’t trust each other. Now the latest arrest of CIA agent might bring bigger rifts between two big democracies.

13th, March, 2026, Indian Intelligence agencies tied up with Russian Intelligence, have arrested Matthew VanDyke, a CIA agent in Kolkata airport, India. The NIA has indicated this arrest as high-level espionage and sabotage network.

US’s insecurity about the Indian economic growth is pretty well known, US is not happy about India’s success in becoming fourth largest economy and very soon it will be third biggest global economy. The incidents like these will intensify our already strained relation with US. The reason being the NIA has categorically stated VanDyke as a CIA asset conspiring to destabilise India’s North East. He trains insurgents in India-Myanmar border in advanced guerilla tactics and drone warfare.

Officially, VanDyke is a popular US documentary film maker, former mercenary who fought Libya, Syria and Ukraine.

With VanDyke, NIA has arrested six more Ukraine nationals who were intending to create violence in the border region.

Strangely, Sumit Kumar was arrested by NIA on 22nd March from Chabua Airforce Station in Assam.

A joint operation by Rajasthan and Air Force Intelligence revealed that Kumar had been leaking sensitive military data, including fighter jet locations and missile system details.

None of these are coincidences and very intensively conspired.

India will have bigger shocks from US as the interrogation progresses.
