Directorate of Estates (DOE) has served the eviction notice to the Indian National Congress for their old Head office at Akhbar Road. After years of litigation finally DOE has taken legal initiative. After almost a year of inaugurating their new Office, Indira Gandhi Bhavan at Kotla Road.
Other Properties under the eviction notice are, 26, Mansingh Road, used for IYC and 5, Raisina Road, was allotted to the party long time back, now given the notice for over-stay.
All the notices are served on the legal basis of Unauthorized Occupation. Also, their new Office at Kotla road is functional and most of the Congress meetings are held in their new office at Katla Road, Indira Gandhi Bhavan.
DOE has asked for the penalty which amounts to crores, failing to pay the penalty will result in freezing of Congress’s account. Penalty is calculated on the basis of over-stay and Congress must give the compensation for also those years it over stayed without paying rent.
Congress party’s senior leaders have their emotional connect with 24, Akhbar Building, since Congress is working in this building for last five decades.
