India celebrates the Earth Hour event all across the country, from South to North and East to west

Earth Hour is an initiative organised by Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), started in the year 2007 in Australia. It encourages communities, individuals, offices, businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for an hour as a symbol of commitment to the planet.

Earth hour 2026 will be celebrated in India, all across the country. The event is planned on 28th of March between 8.30 to 9.30 PM, with a theme “Give an Hour for Earth”. The event is given a slogan, “One Nation, One Hour, One switch off”.

The major monuments like Mysore palace, India Gate, Gateway of India will go dark for an hour. P.V.Sindhu, Olympic medallist, is the brand ambassador for Earth Hour, urging citizens to go beyond mere switching off lights to adopting sustainable lifestyles.

In the year 2025 corporate sectors like Tata Power, BSES Rajdhani, and DISCOMS had sent alerts to many consumers to participate and 269 MW of electricity saved.

The Chess legend Vishwanth Anand and the team Punjab Kings have contributed to digital campaign to spread awareness among the youth.

Everyone can participate in the event by turning off electricity for an hour. WWF has introduced a digital Hour Bank. It’s an avenue where one can pledge 60 minutes to activities like sustainable cooking, nature walks, community and family discussions on ecology-themes.
