Uncertainty haunts both voters and vote-seekers in West Bengal

ECI has put lakhs of voters “under adjudication” clause and their right to vote will be assessed by juridical officers.

Kolkata: Sahina Mumtaz Begum legislative assembly member since 2021, TMC declared her as their candidate for the constituency, Naoda, in Murshidabad. Despite having such credentials, she is not sure whether she will be able to vote for 2026 polls. ECI’s list has categorized Sahina Begum under adjudication in their Special Intensive Revision.

The first supplementary list was published on March 23rd but name was not added. The polling is few weeks away but Shina Begum is not sure on her voting rights. She is the daughter in law of Nasiruddin Shah who elected State Assembly four times, starting fr0om 1969.

That’s not an isolated case, Rabbani and Fayzal who fielded for TMC from the constituencies, Goalpokhar and Hansan Assembly are facing the same scrutiny. Rabbani is more worried about his voters than his candidature.

Despite Rabbani has submitted Adhar, Pan, passport and School certificates still his name is under adjudication and he is waiting for the next supplementary list, hoping his name will be added.

If the situation prevails till April 6th, which is last day for filing nominations, then Sahin, Rabbani and Haque won’t be able to participate on the first phase on April 23rd.

The deletion of 63 lakh names amounted 8.5 % and total voters has come down to 7.04 crores from the initial 7.66 crores before SIR.

Forom 7.04 crores voters 60 lakhs voters under adjudication can only be the nightmare to TMC.
