The gunfight took place in a forest area near Machpalli village, situated on the border of the Chhotebethiya and Partapur police station limits.  Acting on crucial intelligence regarding Maoist presence, a joint team of security forces launched an anti-Naxal operation early Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Rupi, an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the Maoists' Partapur area committee. Security forces recovered her body along with a weapon (a pistol), explosives, and other Maoist literature from the site.

Police officials, including Kanker SP Nikhil Rakhecha, have noted that Rupi was believed to be the last remaining senior Telugu cadre active in the Bastar region. Rupi carried a bounty of ₹5 lakh on her head. She was the wife of Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee who was killed in an encounter last year. She was wanted in many cases. Islamabad Accord: Pakistan, the mediator, US, the mediocre, Iran, the looser, only Israel did well

This encounter follows shortly after the government’s March 31, 2026, declaration that Chhattisgarh is free of "armed" Maoist units, indicating ongoing mop-up operations against the remaining scattered cadres.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj restated that while the government continues to offer rehabilitation for those who surrender, the "elimination" of those who remain on the path of violence will continue until the region is fully secured.
