North-South Divide Fears: Congress Attacks Government’s Move to Expand Lok Sabha to 816 Seats

"Bulldozer Mentality": Opposition Slams Special Parliament Session Over Delimitation and Women’s Quota Bill

Today, April 14, 2026, the Congress-led Opposition launched a derisive attack on the Modi’s government, blaming the Prime Minister of a bulldozer mentality and making a complete mockery of democracy. The criticism focuses on the government’s move to convene a special three-day session of Parliament from April 16 to 18 to pass amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women's Reservation Act, 2023) and introduce a controversial delimitation proposal. Congress claims, that rushing these bills without sharing adequate information reflects a "bulldoze first, consult later" governance style. According to the opposition, government should share all the texts before going in to all-party meeting.

Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders have declared that delimitation, not women's empowerment, is the real issue.

The session coincides with the peak of election campaigning in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal (where polls are scheduled for April 23 and 29). MPs who are working on the election will not be available for this meeting.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh and other leaders slammed the government for failing to share the draft of the Constitution Amendment Bills with MPs just 48 hours before the session. From Sweet Hopes to Sour Yields: Karnataka’s Mango Crisis Hits 50% Decline as Prices Reach Record Highs
