Today, Pawan Khera officially moved the Gauhati High Court seeking for anticipatory bail, based on the directive from the Supreme Court on Friday (April 17) to approach the competent jurisdictional court in Assam.
On April 17, the Supreme Court declined to extend his transit anticipatory bail, which had been granted earlier by the Telangana High Court. The Court also refused to grant him interim protection until Tuesday, leaving him legally vulnerable to arrest by the Assam Police until the Guwahati High Court hears his petition.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has publicly stated that Khera should "surrender before the law in Guwahati," suggesting that the state police may act if bail is not secured immediately. Waiting is over for Khera now, From Tuesday Assam police is expected to take legal actions on the criminal charges filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma (wife of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma).
As per the case status on the high court website, the petition was filed on Monday (April 20).
