Etihad Airways has terminated 15 Pakistani employees working at its Abu Dhabi hangar and asked them to leave the United Arab Emirates within 48 hours. The staff were not informed through normal human resources procedures. Instead, they were asked to report directly to immigration authorities. At the immigration office, the employees were served official notices ordering them to leave the UAE within two days. Etihad said some of the employees had long service records, including individuals who worked with the airline for many years. One of them has worked for Etihad Airways for 18 years. The short notice period has made it difficult for them to make a proper travelling arrangement. As is, Pakistan is facing economic problems, broken financial systems, explicit dependency on other countries for finance and the jobs, this incident raises the question, whether Pakistanis are rejected globally?
As of now, Etihad Airways has not released an official explanation for the dismissals. While workforce rearrangement is not uncommon in the aviation sector, but the involvement of immigration authorities and the instant exit orders suggest that the situation may extend beyond humdrum operational decisions.
The incident comes when growing tensions between the UAE and Pakistan is at the peak. Some analysts believe the swift deportation orders could indicate a tougher stance by Abu Dhabi, potentially reflecting broader diplomatic or administrative shifts.
