The MP warned that the BJP-led government in West Bengal would initiate a massive crackdown on illegal infiltrators. He expressed distress that this would lead to a sea of migrants being pushed back into Bangladesh, creating an economic and social crisis for the country. The country which is already strained economically and industries being dead, the reverse immigration would make a bigger challenge.
Concerns were raised about the BJP's promise to complete border fencing and implement stricter surveillance, which the MP suggested could disrupt traditional cross-border ties. The speech also touched upon how a shift in West Bengal's political leadership might affect existing water-sharing treaties and bilateral trade agreements that currently benefit the region.
