While the rest of West Bengal saw its results declared on May 4, Falta remains an open combat zone. The TMC, led by Abhishek Banerjee, has responded with an igniting "dare" to the Union Government and the BJP, escalating the political tension in the Diamond Harbour region.
Repoll will be contested on May 21, 2026, between 7 AM to 6 PM and the counting day is scheduled for May 24th.
The ECI cited "severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process." Specifically, investigators found that Ballot Unit buttons on EVMs in at least 60 booths (21% of the total) had been tampered with, allegedly using black adhesive tape and even perfume to obstruct voters from selecting certain candidates.
Abhishek Banerjee has challenged the "entire Union of India" to bring its full machinery to Falta. The party asked the BJP to bring in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Yogi Adityanath to campaign for the repoll.
