The execution of Kourosh Keyvani, an Iranian-Swedish dual national, has glimmered international disgrace and highlighted the intensifying crackdown by Tehran on individuals with perceived foreign ties. Keyvani was executed in the early hours of May 4, 2026, based on a trial that human rights organizations have called it as a judicial sham.

The prosecution's case rested on highly controversial digital evidence.

Security agents appealed that Keyvani was an asset for the Israel’s Mossad. The primary evidence mentioned was a series of photographs found on his confiscated mobile phones. Prosecutors claim that these photos are ranging from rural panoramas to urban outskirts, were actually coded surveyance intended to help opposition groups and foreign intelligence identify sensitive military or infrastructure sites.
