The "Chicken’s Neck", officially known as the Siliguri Corridor, is a narrow stretch of land in West Bengal (approximately 20 to 22 KM wide) that connects India’s northeastern states to the rest of the country. Crammed between Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, it is one of the most vulnerable and highly militarized choke points in global geopolitics.

The Indian Army, working in coordination with the West Bengal state administration and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has taken over specific parcels of land adjacent to NH-10. These areas are being converted into dedicated military logistics protuberances, heavy vehicle staging areas, and subterranean ammunition storage depots.

The Army has expanded the footprint of the Sukna-based 33 Corps (Trishakti Corps), absorbing additional land patches around the Bengdubi military station and Bagdogra. This ensures that armoured columns and air defence units have immediate, uninterrupted deployment routes without straining civilian traffic.

Some parts of the land near the India-Bangladesh and India-Nepal transit points have seen an increased permanent footprint of the Army and the BSF to check uneven threats, illegal migration, and potential sabotage of rail links. The primary catalyst for the Army's aggressive posture in the corridor is the evolving security threat from China’s People's Liberation Army. The Chumbi Valley is a dagger-shaped piece of Tibetan territory controlled by China that points directly toward the Siliguri Corridor. Ever since the 2017 Doklam standoff, China has heavily militarized the surface infrastructure on its side, building permanent concrete bunkers, heliports, and all-weather roads. The border fencing has started in hyper-speed to secure India from Bangladeshi illegal immigrants and secure the vulnerable Chicken neck.
