On the night of May 12, 2026, 33-year-old Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. She was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital shortly after midnight on May 13.

Twisha had married Samarth Singh, a practicing advocate, in December 2025 (approximately five months prior to her death) after connected through a matrimonial platform. According to the Bhopal Police Commissioner and the preliminary autopsy conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, the medical and forensic evidence points to suicide by hanging.

The autopsy report indicated consistent with asphyxiation, but also documented multiple simple, antemortem blunt-force injuries on her body, including a bruise beneath her scalp and abrasions/bruises on her neck, arm, forearm, and wrist. Report also indicated, she had undergone a Medical Termination of Pregnancy roughly a week prior to her death.

Twisha's family, registered a formal complaint at the Bhopal Police under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for dowry death, cruelty, and harassment. A six-member Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the case. Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, went missing after the incident. Twisha’s parents claim, she faced persistent physical and mental torture over dowry demands and employment. They state her final messages expressed extreme anxiety and incarceration.
