Reacting to Mamata Banerjee’s yell to remove the BJP-led government at the Centre, Bhattacharya pointedly dismissed her political influence, stating that the Trinamool Congress has completely lost its ground reality.
"She can try and she has a lot of time. There is nothing to work on in Bengal. They have lost credibility and no one is with the TMC. There is no one in TMC even to remove BJP flags and put up TMC flags."
He further explains, based on the 2026 state assembly polls, which saw monumental setbacks for the TMC, including Mamata Banerjee's high-profile defeat in her traditional stronghold of Bhabanipur, Bhattacharya highlighted that the election became a direct battle of "The People vs. Mamata." He stated that the results reflected a massive public decline in trust and a clear mandate for alternative governance under the BJP.
When Mamata Banerjee faced intense protests and criticism by a section of lawyers inside the Calcutta High Court premises, where she claimed she was physically cornered, Bhattacharya clarified that the BJP does not pledge to such a culture. However, he upheld that the public anger was a direct consequence of her own party's past misdeeds. "This is not BJP's culture. She is a former Chief Minister and a woman... BJP does not orchestrate people shouting 'chor-chor’ on the streets. But this situation is the bitter fruit of TMC's own actions over the years," he stated. Bruises, Blame, and Bureaucracy: The Unanswered Questions in Twisha Sharma's Death
Despite the fierce political rivalry, Bhattacharya has tried to draw a line between political opposition and democratic decorum. Following the change of power in Bengal, he confirmed to the media that Mamata Banerjee was officially invited to the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister "strictly as per constitutional protocol," emphasizing that political battles should not erode institutional courtesy.
It can be noted that Bhattacharya was a staunch criticiser of Mamata supporting Rohingyas.
