New Delhi : BJP national minority Morcha President, Jamal Siddiqui, ahead of Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid), urged the Muslim community to not to indulge in cow slaughtering. He issued a public appeal entreating the Muslim community to ensure a peaceful observance of Bakrid. He particularly requested that no prohibited animals, particularly cows, be slaughtered during the festival to respect the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Siddiqui clarified the religious framework of the sacrifice (qurbani), drawing a distinction between Islamic obligations. He asserted that animal sacrifice in Bakrid is considered wajib (required/necessary for those who can afford it) rather than fard (an absolute, mandatory duty for every Muslim).
He underlined that qurbani is intended only for individuals who possess the financial capacity and social standing, and it is not an obligation for the economically marginalized or those burdened by debt. He further added, while individual sacrifices of smaller animals like goats or sheep, large animals like bulls or buffaloes are traditionally shared among seven people in Muslim community sacrifices.
Siddiqui warned that certain self-proclaimed custodians of Islam religion exploit this tradition to create unnecessary pressure on impoverished Muslims to participate, primarily with the intention of generating funds. He termed this artificial pressure and fearmongering as anti-Islam, warning that it leads to needless disputes and communal friction. To ensure the festival proceeds without causing public inconvenience or security issues, Siddiqui also recommended, conducting Eid prayers (namaz) at mosques and designated Idgahs in two to three shifts to manage crowds.
Ensuring that if prayers must be offered in open, public spaces due to space constraints, prior permission is strictly obtained from the local administration and his statement make even with similar voluntary guidelines and administrative restrictions on cattle slaughter issued by multiple state governments and regional Eidgah committees.
