India has categorically rejected the references to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement issued by China and Pakistan. Following Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Beijing. India will never compromise on its territorial integrity and sovereignty. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal asserted India's traditional diplomatic position that the entire territory of Jammu & Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, are internal matters of Indian nation.

"The Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India. No other country has the locus standi to comment on the same."

The joint statement between Beijing and Islamabad made references to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). India determinedly opposes CPEC because its infrastructure projects run directly through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi views these projects as a violation of its sovereignty, stating that any attempts by external nations to build infrastructure there serve to illegally reinforce or legitimise Pakistan's forcible occupation of Indian territory. India also rejected references in the joint statement regarding trans-boundary water resources cooperation between China and Pakistan. The MEA pointed out a geographical reality, China and Pakistan do not share a natural, legal international boundary. The only reason they share a physical border is due to the 1963 Boundary Agreement, under which Pakistan illegally surrendered the Shaksgam Valley to China. India has never recognized this 1963 pact, maintaining that the entire region legally belongs to India, which invalidates any bilateral water-cooperation claims over the area. The disagreement arose after the joint statement termed the Jammu and Kashmir issue a left-over from history and called for it to be resolved peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and bilateral agreements, a framework New Delhi upholds is outdated and irrelevant given that the region is entirely an internal sovereign matter.
