Permission has been granted to undertake the Kailash Parvat and Mansarovar Yatra for one month every year, but in the past 5 years no permission was given. Now, from July to August 2025, the Yatra will take place.

The Kailash Yatra is permitted only once a year for one or two months. To visit Mount Kailash, one has to travel to Tibet, which is currently under Chinese administration, and the arrangements are monitored by China. The Yatra was suspended for the past 5 years due to the pandemic and China’s restrictions. Now, for the first time after 5 years, the Kailash Yatra will resume in July and August 2025.

Strict guidelines must be followed to participate in the Kailash Yatra. The Indian government makes necessary arrangements, and applications are also open through private travel operators. However, it is strongly advised to travel under government arrangements for better safety and security.


Routes Available:

Through Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand), 5 groups of 50 pilgrims each will be sent every year.
Through Nathu La Pass (Sikkim), 10 groups of 50 pilgrims each will be allowed every year.

Selection Process for Pilgrims:

Those wishing to undertake the Kailash Yatra must meet certain eligibility criteria. All applicants will be evaluated equally without any discrimination. The process is the same for both men and women. Every applicant has equal rights and opportunities.

Carry warm sweaters, scarves, layered clothing, non-slip snow shoes, thermal wear, high-energy foods, and essential first-aid medicines.

Estimated Cost:

For Indian pilgrims, the overall cost including travel, guides, stay, food, and government fees is estimated at INR 2.5 to 3.5 lakhs per person.
