To safeguard the health of these pets and ensure the availability of blood during emergencies, the Union Government is set to launch the "Pet Blood Bank Network" scheme in 2025. This scheme has been designed to address this issue, as pets such as dogs, cats, and others often require blood during emergency surgeries, hemorrhages, or anemia cases. However, the current shortage of organized blood banks in the country has led to delays in treatment, prompting the government to move forward with a nationwide blood bank network. The scheme will involve setting up 24/7 operational blood banks in veterinary colleges, universities, large veterinary hospitals, polyclinics, and government multi-specialty hospitals. Information about these blood banks will be made available through a centralized digital platform, enabling pet owners to obtain immediate details about blood availability for their pets.
