New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has strongly defended the Narendra Modi government’s introduction of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at bringing the Prime Minister and ministers under the purview of the law. The bill seeks to prevent individuals in judicial custody from holding high offices such as Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Union and State Ministers. Shah emphasized that this legislative proposal is intended to restore integrity in politics. In a detailed post on X, Shah stated, “On one hand, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has introduced a constitutional amendment to bring himself within the ambit of the law. Shah referenced the historical event of 1975 when then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi introduced the 39th Constitutional Amendment. This amendment exempted the election of the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Lok Sabha Speaker from judicial scrutiny by Indian courts. It was enacted to overturn the Allahabad High Court’s decision to annul Indira Gandhi’s election and secure her political position. “The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi ji, through a constitutional amendment, placed the Prime Minister above the law. Key Provisions of the Constitutional Amendment
