On August 10, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Yellow Line, a 19.15 km stretch from R.V. Road to Bommasandra. This elevated line, featuring 16 stations, connects key areas like Electronic City, Silk Board, and BTM Layout, enhancing urban mobility. However, post-inauguration, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has faced criticism for poor planning, particularly around Jayadeva Hospital, where road closures have caused significant inconvenience to commuters, patients, and the elderly.

The construction and operation of the Yellow Line led to the closure of several roads near Jayadeva Hospital, a critical healthcare facility for cardiac patients. These closures have forced pedestrians, including heart patients and senior citizens, to navigate high barricades to cross roads, posing safety risks.PM Sri Narendramodi visit to Bengaluru on August 10 will be a landmark moment for Bengaluru South. The lack of proper pedestrian pathways has sparked public outrage, with accusations of mismanagement leveled against BMRCL. The situation is particularly dire for those visiting the hospital for treatment, as the barricades create hazardous obstacles.

Since its public opening on August 11, 2025, the Yellow Line has seen an average daily footfall of 25,000 passengers. However, with only three train sets operating at 25-minute intervals, BMRCL has struggled to manage the crowds, especially at stations like R.V. Road, Jayadeva, and Silk Board. This has led to long waiting times and commuter frustration, highlighting the need for increased train frequency.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has raised concerns about the issue, noting that while BMRCL installed steel barricades at R.V. Road station by August 20, 2025, these are only temporary measures. He has urged the adoption of permanent safety solutions, such as platform screen doors. BMTC Feeder Buses Launched on Bengaluru’s R.V. Road-Bommasandra Yellow Metro Line for Enhanced Connectivity..!

BMRCL has deployed additional security personnel to manage crowds and plans to introduce 15 more train sets by March 2026, reducing intervals to five minutes. However, the road closure issues around Jayadeva Hospital remain unresolved, with no clear timeline for a permanent fix.

While the Yellow Line has improved connectivity across Bengaluru’s tech and residential hubs, BMRCL’s oversight in planning pedestrian access, particularly near critical facilities like Jayadeva Hospital, has drawn significant criticism. Addressing these challenges through better infrastructure planning and faster operational enhancements will be crucial to ensuring the line’s success and commuter satisfaction.Overcrowding at Bengaluru Metro Stations: Impact of Transport Workers' Strike..!
