This incident has sparked widespread outrage across Karnataka, with political groups sharply criticizing the state government.On the night of September 7, the Ganesh immersion procession, which began from Siddhartha Nagar, was passing through Ram Rahim Nagar when, around 8 PM, stones were allegedly thrown near a mosque. According to police reports, stones were hurled at participants dancing in the procession, prompting an angry response from procession members who retaliated by throwing stones. Locals have accused the mosque of being illegally constructed and causing restrictions, and they have already lodged complaints with the District Collector and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One local stated, “The stones were thrown from the mosque’s vicinity. Protesters gathered near government buildings and the mosque, raising slogans of “Jai Shri Ram.” Despite police restrictions, the protests continued, leading to a lathi charge and the arrest of individuals. So far, 21 people have been detained, with police stating that some of them are outsiders.Section 144 has been imposed in Maddur town, and markets have been completely shut down. Additional police forces have been deployed, and heightened security measures have been put in place in sensitive areas. However, this incident has caused anxiety among locals.Opposition leader R. Ashok criticized the Congress government, stating, “Such incidents are happening due to the poor governance of the Congress government. Only Hindus are being targeted.”Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje condemned the incident, saying, “I strongly condemn this event. The government is hurting Hindu sentiments.”JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed outrage, urging, “Maintain peace and prevent such incidents.”The police are currently investigating the incident and have raised suspicions that the streetlights near the mosque being turned off could indicate premeditated planning.
