Vice President Election: Suspicion of 'Cross-Voting' on These 2 Parties in Their Own Alliance for the Opposition

In the election for India's 15th Vice President, NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan has achieved a clear victory with 452 votes. However, the opposition alliance candidate, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, secured only 300 votes and remained far from victory. This result has caused confusion within the opposition, with suspicions of cross-voting by members of their own alliance's DMK and TMC parties.

New Delhi: In the election for India's 15th Vice President, NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan has achieved a clear victory with 452 votes. However, the opposition alliance candidate, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, secured only 300 votes and remained far from victory. This result has caused confusion within the opposition, with suspicions of cross-voting by members of their own alliance's DMK and TMC parties. In the election held on September 9, a total of 781 MPs had the opportunity to cast votes. However, 767 MPs voted, and out of those, 15 votes were declared invalid. As a result, only 752 votes were considered valid. Although the NDA alliance's strength was around 427 votes, Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, which NDA leaders attribute to 11 votes from outside the alliance, including possible cross-voting from the opposition. However, Reddy secured only 300 votes, resulting in a shortfall of 27 votes. Even including the 15 invalid votes, 12 votes are still missing. NDA leaders accuse that this could be due to cross-voting by DMK and TMC party members. NDA sources also indicate cross-voting from opposition members in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. However, this backfired as cross-voting from their own members benefited the INDIA bloc. However, they have termed it as votes cast according to the wish of opposition members. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that most opposition members voted for Radhakrishnan, and this is a vote of their choice.Opposition leader Manish Tewari has demanded a complete investigation, saying that if cross-voting occurred within the alliance, it is serious. This incident poses a new challenge to the opposition's unity ahead of the Bihar elections.
