Samudra Manthan and the Emergence of Lakshmi: According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Mahalakshmi emerged from the Kshira Sagara (Milky Ocean) during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). It is believed that she appeared on this Amavasya night. Deities and sages lit lamps to welcome and worship her on this dark night.
