Wait Until Bihar Elections Conclude Before Launching SIR: Omar Abdullah Urges ECI..!

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has voiced strong opposition to the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has voiced strong opposition to the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

Rather than accelerating a nationwide pan-India SIR, he has urged the commission to hold off until the Bihar assembly elections conclude, emphasizing the need for caution amid rising political tensions.Vbuyz Women'S Cotton Floral Print A-Line Regular Fit Kurta With Sharara & Dupatta

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Sunday evening, just ahead of the ECI's press conference, Abdullah highlighted growing anxieties in Bihar over the SIR process.

He questioned its true beneficiaries, stating, It's unclear who stands to gain from this revision. With the 2025 Bihar legislative elections heating up, allegations are mounting that the SIR is disproportionately harming opposition parties, potentially tilting the scales in favor of the ruling coalition. Also Read: Shoe-Throwing Incident on CJI: What is the Real Reason the Supreme Court Refused to Take Action?

Abdullah proposed a measured approach evaluate the SIR's effectiveness post-elections in Bihar before rolling it out to the rest of the country.

He cautioned that any haste in implementing a nationwide revision could fuel accusations of the ECI succumbing to pressure from a specific political party, undermining its impartiality. Also Read: KR Puram Blast: Cylinder Leak or Explosives? These remarks draw from Jammu and Kashmir's own troubled history with electoral reforms. Abdullah accused past decisions such as delimitation exercises and the creation of new constituencies of disproportionately benefiting one dominant political faction.

The ECI must safeguard its independence and avoid repeating such errors, he stressed, warning against actions that erode public trust. Also Read: Rahul-Tejashwi Joint Rally in Bihar: Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga Rally on October 29..!

This isn't the first time Abdullah has raised alarms. Back in July 2025, when the Supreme Court greenlit SIR in Bihar, he had already advised observing its fallout closely.

Reports from Bihar now include claims of booth capturing and voter intimidation linked to the process. Even National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has labeled it discriminatory, amplifying calls for reform.

While the ECI maintains that SIR enhances voter list accuracy and integrity, opposition voices decry it as a tool for the NDA government's electoral maneuvering. Also Read: Plot to Assassinate PM Modi? What Did Putin Do?

In September 2025, Abdullah himself noted the EC's handling of Bihar affairs, remarking, The people are deeply dissatisfied.

As Bihar's polls reach a crescendo culminating in joint rallies by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav on October 29 decisions like SIR are under scrutiny for threatening the fairness of India's democratic process.

Through Abdullah's critique, a unified opposition front is emerging, sending a clear signal. Political analysts agree the ECI must treat these concerns with the gravity they deserve to preserve electoral credibility. Also Read: Role of SIR Crucial in Bihar Elections: Shahnawaz Hussain's Bold Statement..!
