An unexpected political alliance in Maharashtra's Thane district Ambarnath Municipal Council has stirred major controversy in state politics.

The Congress high command, strongly opposing this move against party principles, suspended the 12 newly elected councillors and the local block president for aligning with the BJP.

In a similar development, the state BJP president Ravindra Chavan issued a show-cause notice to Akot MLA Prakash Bharsakhle over a local alliance involving AIMIM.
