Kolkata: Communal tensions erupt in Murshidabad as expected. Violence hit WB election and houses were set ablaze, the mob had cut off the water supply to prevent fire from being extinguished.

West Bengal’s Murshidabad, where the Muslim population is around 67% and the impact of SIR is significant. The impact on TMC will be massive, as the deletion is vote-loss for the party, even voter who can vote, they are showing incumbency towards Mamata Banerjee. All these changes are leading to communal tensions in the region.

On April 12, 2025, a mob dragged a 72 years old man, Harogobinda Das from his house along with his son Chandan (42) and stuck them with axes and guarded both till they bled to death. What started as protest against Waqf amendment bill, quickly turned violent in Jangipur, Samserganj, Dhulian and Suti regions. The mob blocked the National Highway and torched the police vehicles.

Houses were burnt and water supply was cut off; Calcutta High Court had to intervene and had to order deployment of armed central forces. The state had to suspend the internet and issue Prohibitory orders.

But TMC managed to win with thumbing majority in all the three places, Jangipur, Samserganj and

The April election in WB is a deciding factor of Mamata’s existence or BJP’s rise. Everyone’s at stake in this upcoming election and the communal riots are majorly controlled by the new officers. The government officials have to ensure transparent election and communal riots have to be guarded efficiently.
