There was always a silver edge to the dark cloud, people were optimistic, the country Bharat was determined to rescue the state from the evil of the radicle fundamentalists and to restore the democracy and judiciary system.

Amid the Special Intensive Revision and the high-voltage 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, Manoj Kumar Agarwal has become one of the most examined figures in the state. As the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, he is the man at the tiller of an election process that is being fought as much in the courtrooms as at the booths.

The man is from 1990-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre; Agarwal was appointed by the Election Commission of India specifically to look into the 2026 Assembly elections. Well known for his technical proficiency and adherence to digital systems, his tenure will be remembered as the data-driven transparency period, to a state often plagued by allegations of voter roll manipulation. In December 2025, he was given Y+ security cover following an IB input, as specific threat perceptions amid the rising political temperature in Kolkata.

The TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee and Derek O'Brien, has flung a sustained offensive against Agarwal, alleging institutional bias. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a massive ECI workout to "clean up" the voter list, which resulted in millions of names being labelled or deleted. The party alleges that Agarwal is executing a "BJP-scripted agenda" to delete the names of migrant workers and minorities. Mamata Banerjee did also accuse the CEO’s office of using AI-driven tools to selectively delete TMC-leaning voters, leading to what she calls voter harassment. In April 2026, the TMC filed a formal complaint with the ECI, including photographic evidence allegedly showing Agarwal in Nandigram accompanied by individuals the TMC identifies as BJP supporters.

Suvendu Adhikari of BJP, defended the meeting, stating the individual in question was an ex-serviceman sharing his grievances about post-poll violence, not a political operative. The $400 Million Wall: US Naval Blockade Suffocates Iranian Exports

The TMC has complained Agarwal for the two-phase election schedule, claiming it was intended to give the BJP a strategic advantage by stretching the deployment of central forces. He has underlined that the post-SIR restoration process is entirely online, allowing any citizen whose name was wrongly deleted to apply for restoration right up until the polls. Following the Supreme Court’s recent intervention, he assured that the CEO's office is fully prepared to handle supplementary electoral rolls via digital portals.

The nation remembers Manoj Kumar Agarwal as the saviour of democracy, saviour of West Bengal!
