During a protest rally in Sikandra bad, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Pradeep Dixit—the Sikandra bad Nagar Palika Chairman and a local BJP leader, openly announced a ₹1 crore bounty for anyone who would behead the sitting TMC Lok Sabha MP, Saayoni Ghosh.
After the viral circulation of the video containing the bounty announcement, Saayoni Ghosh took to X to yell her shock and outrage. Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, she questioned, "Is declaring a bounty to behead a woman, a sitting Member of Parliament, issued by a BJP public representative in a BJP-ruled state, the true idea of 'Nari Shakti Vandan' in New Bharat?"
Ghosh clarified that the controversial post was actually from her account which was hacked at that time. She further stated, that the post was deleted immediately after she regained access and that she had already clarified the matter and expressed her regrets years ago. After, intense public backlash and distancing from the local BJP leadership, Dr. Pradeep Dixit issued an official statement on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, expressing deep regret for his violent remarks. He asserted, that he acted out of sudden emotional anguish and did not realize the post was from 2015, nor did he know that Ghosh had already clarified and expressed regret over the incident years prior.
Dixit stated that he was deeply hurt as a devotee of Lord Shiva by an objectionable image related to a Shivling that had been posted from Ghosh’s social media account. TMC tried using black tape on EVMs in April, but by May, their candidate completely taped out!!!!!
While Dixit has expressed his regret to de-escalate the situation, opposition leaders have strongly condemned the behaviour, demanding strict police action and an FIR against the civic chief for publicly inciting violence against an elected woman representative.
