Chamundi Hill Belongs to Hindus, Don’t Politicize Dasara: Pramodadevi Wadiyar’s Clarification..!

The selection of the inaugurator for Mysuru Dasara has sparked intense debate. Pramodadevi Wadiyar, a member of the royal family, has clarified that Chamundi Hill belongs to Hindus and urged that Dasara be celebrated as per tradition, not politicized.

The controversy surrounding the selection of the inaugurator for the Mysuru Dasara festival continues. The choice of Booker Prize winner Banū Mushtaq as the inaugurator has faced opposition from the BJP and certain pro-Hindu organizations. Amid these developments, a statement by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar claiming that Chamundi Hill does not belong to Hindus has further fueled the debate. Responding to this, Pramodadevi Wadiyar, a member of the erstwhile royal family, has clarified that Chamundi Hill indeed belongs to Hindus.

“I have clearly stated everything in my letter. Chamundi Hill belongs to Hindus. The Chamundeshwari Temple operates according to Hindu religious practices. Chamundi is a Hindu deity and the presiding deity of the Yadu dynasty,” she said. Pramodadevi emphasized that Goddess Chamundi is like a divine mother to the Yadu dynasty. She expressed dissatisfaction with politicians’ statements, noting that their words cannot alter the temple’s religious significance.

She added that a legal battle regarding the temple is ongoing in court, and the formation of any authority is not official. The matter will only be clarified after the court’s verdict, she stated. For the past 70 years, a legal struggle concerning the temple has persisted. Pramodadevi expressed dismay that the temple issue is being politicized.

She urged that the selection of the Dasara inaugurator should not be politicized, stating that enough politics has already been played on the matter and it should not continue.“The government’s Dasara is not part of our tradition. Our family’s Dasara is conducted privately. The government celebrates Dasara as it deems fit. I don’t attend the government’s event due to the focus on the Ambari (golden howdah); only one member of our family attends,” she clarified.
